Listen up, fabricators. Looking for a new product to fabricate? One that capitalizes on the "green" movement and, therefore, stands a decent chance of finding a market? Then look to the sidewalks of New York City.
Ignore any pigeon droppings and trash bags awaiting pickup. Focus instead on some whimsical powder-coated steel structures that look like art but meet a very practical need—one shared by communities of all sizes.

It’s amazing how custom motorcycles have become one of the main symbols of fabricating. The bikes are cool, colorful, and powerful, but they are also expensive. In fact, I’m not quite sure how many people involved in fabricating could actually go out and purchase one.

Chicago chef Homaro Cantu is a gadget guy who ended up in the restaurant world. I couldn’t help notice how his world so closely connects to the world of fabricating as I was watching
“Iron Chef America” on the Food Network last Sunday.
Cantu owns Moto in Chicago. I’ve heard of the restaurant, but never really dove into news stories because reviews of the restaurant left me with the impression that it was a gimmicky treat for high-priced-food lovers. Seeing this dude in action proved me wrong.

At the Lundin household, we have a 14-year-old who has developed a small yet growing interest in fabricating. He has heard a certain 41-year-old talking about manufacturing careers, and the 14-year-old thinks the industry might have something good for him when he gets out of college. He has taken an interest in robots and thinks this is the way to go. So far, so good.
