Monitoring system reduces laser cutting lens deterioration

October 13, 2009

Bystronic has incorporated a cutting lens sensor (CLS) detection system on machines equipped with Bylaser 4,400- to 6,000-W laser sources.

The design of the monitoring system incorporates optical photo sensors in the Z axis to detect when a cutting lens begins to absorb too much laser energy. When triggered, the system turns off the laser to prevent further deterioration of the cutting lens.
