Maximize comfort with the lightweight Speedglas SL welding helmet
3M's new Speedglas™ Super Light (SL) Welding Helmet and Auto-Darkening Filter (ADF) set a new standard for comfort and lightweight. The SL helmet is our lightest helmet today, weighing 25% lighter than our other Speedglas helmets.
State-of-the-art liquid crystal design. The new SL model features a lighter ADF by using a new liquid crystal cell design and lightweight material. The ADF can be used with all arc-welding processes including MMAW, MIG/MAG, TIG and micro plasma.
Superior optics. The Speedglas™ SL provides legendary Speedglas optical performance. The SL is particularly appropriate for low-to-moderate amperage welding (0.1 to 250 amps). The auto-darkening filter features a light state shade of 3 and five dark shades—8, 9, 10, 11 and 12, for use with all arc welding processes.
Patented Auto-On/Off technology. A new motion-detector automatically turns the filter ON as the welder picks up the shield and will also automatically turn it OFF within 15 minutes of the last arc sensed or last movement. In addition, the ADF batteries are replaceable, unlike many competitive ADFs that must be discarded when their batteries are depleted.
Welders have confirmed that an expanded visible light spectrum has improved the color of the welding filter to make it easier to distinguish the outline of the object to be welded.
Lightweight material. The new lighter helmet is made from low-density PPA—a strong, lightweight material with excellent protection against spatter and sparks. Unlike other materials that can absorb moisture and become soft, the SL helmet is non-absorbent and retains its strength in high humidity.
Comfort. The helmet also offers new ways for the welder to make personal adjustment settings to increase comfort. Simply by turning two knobs, welders can set the helmet and its ADF either closer or further away from the face. These back-and-forth adjustments allow for a variety of personal preferences—as well as differences in nose sizes, safety glass sizes or for the use of 3M maintenance-free welding respirators. The user can also adjust the tilt of the shield to a preferred viewing angle.
Fast-adjusting, flexible, multi-position headband. A new four-position, back-and-forth adjustment headband design allows for a more custom fit. A pattern of holes in the headband increases breathability, comfort and reduces weight further. Resizing the headband or loosening it for removal involves a quick squeeze of the thumb and finger. The headband also accommodates smaller head sizes than previous models. In addition, outer protection plates on the new helmet can be removed quickly and replaced simply by grasping the plate.
