Spatial positioning system enables users to project 360 degrees around large parts

Virtek Vision Intl. Inc. has released the latest version of its Iris™ spatial positioning system, which enables manufacturers to project laser templates 360 degrees around even the largest parts.

Version 1.3 supports the use of multiple vision systems and laser projectors to enable users to measure and project on parts that were previously impractical or impossible because of size. This helps guide the user through part assembly, digitizing, verification, and paint masking tasks.

The system combines the use of laser projection with 3-D vision technology to create a precision assembly technique called virtual tooling. It locates objects in 3-D space and quickly locks onto CAD-specified assembly positions to guide the user through the assembly process. Engineering changes are passed to the shop floor in minutes instead of weeks, so assembly can continue without delays and additional expense.
