New NIMS standards define competencies, skills for entry-level CAM positions

The National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS), San Francisco, has released the first industry CAM standards. Developed with guidance from 3-D design and engineering software manufacturer Autodesk Inc., these standards are intended to enhance education and training programs to meet the demands for skilled CAM programmers, designers, and engineers.

Developed over the course of a yearlong, intensive, nationwide validation process with more than 125 subject matter experts from companies that use a variety of CAM software, the standards define the competencies and skills expected by industry for entry-level CAM positions.
