Narrow induction heating blankets fit in small spaces - TheFabricator.com

Miller Electric Mfg. Co. has introduced new, narrow, air-cooled induction heating blankets for weld preheating in pipeline applications with the ProHeatâ„¢ 35 induction heating system. The blankets, 4.25 in. wide by 160 or 185 in. long, are designed for 48- and 56-in.-dia. pipes, respectively.

The 35-lb. blanket can fit between joints and coatings or insulation. It is designed to be used in pairs for air-cooled induction heating applications up to 400 degrees F.

Induction heating is used in pipeline applications to help drive out moisture and reduce hydrogen-induced cracking. The induction blankets are wrapped around the pipe and do not heat up, as they create eddy currents that generate heat inside the part.
