Beretta USA to close gun manufacturing plant in Maryland

Beretta USA Corp. has announced plans to close its manufacturing plant in Accokeek, Md., citing concern over a new state firearms law that could restrict the company from being able to manufacture, store, or import firearms if some provisions are reinstated in the future.

The firm will transfer all production operations to a $45 million plant it is building in Gallatin, Tenn., while maintaining an office in Maryland for executives and administrative support. The company had originally planned to move only new product manufacturing to the Tennessee location, which will be operational in 2015. The move eliminates 160 jobs in Maryland, while creating 300 in Tennessee.
