Direct-diode laser system increases speed of cladding, heat treating

A new direct-diode laser system from Coherent Inc. offers higher power to help increase throughput for applications in metal cladding and heat treating. The new HighLight™ 10,000D, with its 10-kW output at 975 nm, can be configured to deliver a variety of interchangeable beam shapes with widths from 0.04 to 0.47 in. and lengths from 0.24 to 1.42 in.

When combined with the manufacturer’s pressurized or gravity-fed powder nozzles and systems, the increased power level enables cladding at deposition rates of more than 20 lbs./hr. or the use of larger spot sizes for heat treating.
