SMU to Host its 3rd Annual Steel Summit Conference in Rosemont, IL

Steel Market Update (SMU) will host its 3rd Annual Steel Summit Conference in conjunction with METALCON on October 8, 2012 in the Embassy Suites O'Hare Rosemont. The main theme of SMU’s Steel Summit Conference is Volatility and its impact on the economy, steel mills, service centers and the industry in general.

For the first time ever, SMU is offering a free “Pre-Summit” program for those interested in learning more about the Hot Rolled Futures, Options and Swaps markets and how to Manage Price Risk within their company or on the behalf of their customers.

“Our past two Steel Summit conferences which we held in conjunction with METALCON in Las Vegas and Atlanta were very successful and well attended. We expect this year’s expanded program will be attractive to those associated with the steel and construction industries as we look at what the North American economy will hold in store for the industry in the coming year”, said John Packard, Publisher and Owner of Steel Market Update.

The 3rd Annual Steel Summit Conference will open with an expanded look at the economy on a macro-economic basis and will then focus on the industries which will impact steel and steel prices. We are pleased to have two economist from IHS Global Insight as well as the top-rated metals & mining analyst on our economic panel.

As the Steel Summit program continues, we will focus in on Volatility and its Impact on the Steel Industry tackling such subjects as: imports, supply and demand issues, raw material prices and the world’s impact on the U.S. markets. For the first time we will have a representative of a domestic steel mill (RG Steel) speak to how volatility put the mill out of business.

We understand many companies involved in the manufacturing of products for the construction industry do business with distributors or service centers. In the 3rd Segment of this year's Steel Summit program, three service centers – one small, one mid-sized and one national chain - will speak from their perspective on the Changing Face of the Steel Service Center Industry.

The final segment in the program is dedicated to the North American steel mills. This year we have ThyssenKrupp Steel USA which has only been in operation less than two years along with Severstal North America and Essar Steel Algoma (Canada) who will discuss how the industry will survive and prosper as we head into 2013 and beyond.
