cathodic protection

Definitions

  1. A technique used to control the corrosion of a metal surface by making it the cathode of an electrochemical cell. The simplest method to apply CP is to connect the metal to be protected to a piece of a sacrificial metal, an item that corrodes more readily. The sacrificial metal acts as the anode of the electrochemical cell.
