Definition
- Chlorine, phosphorus or sulfur added to a lubricant to improve its performance when used in heavy metal forming operations. The sliding and pressure provide the heat to cause a reaction between the additive and the contacting metals. This reaction produces a coating that serves to prevent metal transfer and reduce friction. Also called EP additive.
