length encoder

 noun

Definitions

  1. A wheel with a circumference of 12 inches mounted on a tube mill. The number of revolutions the wheel makes during the tube forming process is electronically compared to the time elapsed and therefore calculates the speed of the mill in feet per minute. This information is used at the end of the welded tube mill to generate cut-to-length signals for the cutoff.
