AK Steel announces May surcharges

AK Steel has advised its flat-rolled carbon steel customers that a $218 per ton surcharge will be added to invoices for products shipped in May 2005. The company also has advised its electrical steel customers that a $215 per ton surcharge will be added to invoices for electrical steel products shipped in May 2005. May surcharges for the company's stainless steel products can be found on its Web site.

The surcharges are based on reported prices for raw materials and energy used to manufacture the products, with the March 2005 purchase cost used to determine the May 2005 surcharges.

In addition, effective with orders entered May 1, 2005 and later, the company will increase pricing extras for Interstitial-Free (I-F) carbon steel grades by $1.50/cwt ($30.00/ton) because of the increase in the price of titanium.
