AWS appoints managing director of certification

The American Welding Society (AWS), Miami, an organization working to advance the science, technology, and application of welding, recently appointed John Filippi as managing director of certification operations.

Filippi helps manage AWS certification programs and supports domestic and international expansion efforts for the organization's certification programs. He focuses on strengthening the certification programs and maintaining relationships with national agencies and partners that conduct business on behalf of the organization, including AWS-accredited testing facilities.

Most recently Filippi served as operations manager at Ikon Office Solutions Inc., where he was responsible for production and facility management, equipment maintenance, and budgeting. Before that he was plant foreman at Facelifters Home Systems, where he managed production planning and operations, quality control, and OSHA compliance. Filippi has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Bernard Baruch University.
