AWS seeks nominations for Image of Welding Awards

The American Welding Society (AWS), Miami, and its Welding Equipment Manufacturers Committee (WEMCO) seek nominations for the AWS sixth annual Image of Welding awards.

Award winners will be announced during an awards ceremony at the FABTECH® International & AWS Welding Show, which runs Oct. 6-8 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The awards recognize individuals and organizations that have shown exemplary dedication to promoting the image of welding in their communities.

AWS estimates that there will be a shortage of about 200,000 welders by 2010. The contest is part of a wider AWS campaign to draw positive attention to the welding industry.

The awards are issued in seven categories: Individual; Section (AWS local chapter); Large Business (200 or more employees); Small Business (fewer than 200 employees); Distributor (welding products); Educator; and Educational Facility. All individuals, organizations, and groups may be nominated for multiple categories. The nominations will be judged by WEMCO, a standing committee at AWS that is composed of executives from welding industry suppliers to promote the welding equipment market. Enhancing the image of welding as a critical industry is among the committee's priority programs.

To nominate an individual or organization for an award, send a written explanation of the nominee's qualifications, along with your name, phone number, e-mail, and mailing address, to Adrienne Zalkind at AWS Image of Welding Awards, 550 N.W. LeJeune Road, Miami, FL 33126, or azalkind@aws.org.
