EWI names president, CEO

The Board of Trustees of the Edison Welding Institute (EWI) today announced the selection of Dr. Henry J. Cialone as president and CEO. Cialone replaced Don Caudy, who has been serving as the organization's interim president since January 2005.

Cialone joins EWI from Battelle Memorial Institute, where he developed and commercialized technologies targeted at industry needs. As a senior R&D executive, he has had responsibilities in a number of key areas, including Battelle's commercial deployment of its intellectual property to the energy and automotive industries. Most recently, Cialone served as vice president, Commercial Energy Business, responsible for developing and managing Battelle's commercial energy portfolio and fuel cell strategy. During his 24 years at Battelle, he worked in diverse research and development areas, including energy, advanced materials, defense technology, metallurgy, new product development, automotive technology and national laboratory programs.

Cialone received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in materials science from Brown University.
