Hobart Institute offers FCAW courseware

The Hobart Institute of Welding Technology, Troy, Ohio, now offers a FCAW course available on three DVDs with student workbook, instructor guide, tests, and answer keys. The course includes demonstrations and exercises on multipass fillet welds and groove welds in all positions with gas-shielded and self-shielded electrodes on -, 3/8-, and -in. mild steel.

There are two topics covered on metal-cored wire in the flat position that give students exposure to metal-cored electrodes and their operating characteristics compared with gas-shielded and self-shielded FCAW wires. There are also two topics on 6-in. Sch. 80 pipe in the 2G and 5G positions that serve as an introduction to pipe welding with the FCAW process.

The course also provides in introduction to FCAW and covers the major differences between it and GMAW, equipment setup, adjustment and maintenance, safety, and electrode classification and selection.
