Next-generation skilled-welder training program set to launch

Milwaukee-based Super Steel has partnered with the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin (HCCW) to launch a collaborative welder skills development program to train and place the next generation of manufacturing talent in welding careers.

This program is a part of the HCCW Welder Training Initiative that was launched last year with ITW/ Miller Electric Mfg. Co. as the HCCW’s lead partner, the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, the American Welding Society Foundation, the city of Milwaukee, Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), and the Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board (MAWIB) among other technical colleges and workforce investment boards in the state.

The accelerated training initiative is designed to have trainees job-ready within 18 weeks through a three-part process including HCCW essential life skills training, MATC technical training and mentored on-the-job training, and one-on-one support provided for trainees who are case-managed by the HCCW to help ensure success.

An HCCW-Miller Electric-Super Steel-customized and MATC-accredited training program will teach the technical skills needed to obtain a base-level welding position at Super Steel, with a specific focus on the skills needed for its customers. The training program is offered at no cost to trainees. Upon successful completion of the HCCW and MATC portions, trainees will be placed in a full-time, paid role at Super Steel in which they will complete three weeks of classroom training, followed by nine weeks of mentored on-the-job training.

Candidates are paid to participate in the HCCW essential life skills training portion, and space is limited. To sign up for this program, contact Pamela at the HCCW Economic and Workforce Development Center of Excellence at 414-643-6963 or visit the HCCW website at www.hccw.org/workforce-development/welding-initiative-training/ for more information.
