Victor announces 2014 student cutting and welding contest

Victor Technologies™, St. Louis, will award more than $30,000 in equipment and cash prizes as part of its 2014 “A Cut Above” student contest. The contest is open to students in cutting, welding, and related programs at secondary and postsecondary schools.
Three beginner students will each win $250 by submitting a 500-word essay that the judges deem to best support the contest theme. Advanced students will submit a team metal fabrication project that incorporates an oxyfuel, air-fuel, or plasma cutting process; judges will choose three winning teams and award each member $500.
Each of the schools associated with the winners at their time of entry will receive the following prize package, valued at more than $4,000:
- One Victor® Medalist 250 medium-duty cutting system
- One Victor Thermal Dynamics® Cutmaster™ 42 air plasma cutting outfit
- One Tweco® Fabricator® 211i3-in-1 SMAW/GMAW/GTAW machine kit
- Two Tweco four-sensor auto-darkening welding helmets
Entries are accepted through Oct. 31, 2014, with rules and entry forms available at www.victortechnologies.com/acutabove.
