Coldwater Machine Co. establishes Solid State Joining Center

Coldwater Machine Co., Coldwater, Ohio, a manufacturer of equipment and tools for multiple industries, has announced the establishment of its Solid State Joining Center, a business unit dedicated to the development of technologies that address the challenges of joining lightweight and dissimilar materials. Located in the same building as its parent company, the center includes a weld development lab, which comprises five friction welding systems for testing and low-volume production.

Solid-state joining processes enable the joining of materials at temperatures below their melting points, without the addition of filler metal or shielding gases. The metals being joined retain their original properties without the HAZ problems involved when there is base metal melting.
