Robotics conference emphasizes new standard on industrial robot construction

The Robotic Industries Association (RIA), Ann Arbor, Mich., and the Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Mississauga, Ont., will co-sponsor the North American Robot Safety Conference in Waterloo, Ont. Scheduled to run March 25-28, the sixth annual conference will include an introduction to the new ANSI/RIA/ISO 10218-1-2007 standard and a detailed look at the CSA Z434 robot safety standard, Industrial Robots and Robot Systems, which focuses on user safety.

The event also will include workshops, conference sessions, and a tabletop exhibit trade fair. The program is designed to help attendees improve efficiency while maintaining a safe environment. Detailed workshops and conference presentations are designed to provide participants with an understanding of the various safety standards and their value to a company, RIA reports. Case studies will cover robotic automation and safety implementations.

About 150 participants are expected to attend the event, with each full-conference registrant receiving a complimentary copy of the CSA Z434 standard. RIA expects about 40 vendors to participate in the tabletop exhibit.

The conference is supported by ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc., Cambridge, Ont.; Kawasaki Robotics (USA) Inc., Wixom, Mich.; and Pilz Automation Safety L.P., Canton, Mich.
