Matheson opens retail facility in Joplin, Mo.

Matheson has opened its new facility in Joplin, Mo., replacing the structure lost in a devastating tornado last year.

The company has supplied compressed gases, welding equipment, and related items from its Joplin facility since 2002. On May 22, 2011, a tornado estimated to be 1.5 miles wide cut a swath through that part of the city. The store was a total loss, except for liquid vessels, according to the company.

The new store includes a retail front end, with 1,400 sq. ft. of sales display and demo space — almost double that of the previous store. It features a customer convenience center, with vending and some complimentary refreshments. The building also includes a conference room that the company plans to use for meetings and training.

Also featured is an expanded gas cylinder depot and product inventory stockroom. The customer loading dock features a hydraulic lift to accommodate almost any vehicle size and loading height.
