Caterpillar chairman named "Manager of the Year"

James W. Owens, chairman and CEO of Caterpillar Inc., a manufacturer of construction, mining, and utility-type vehicles, diesel and natural gas engines, and industrial gas turbines, was selected this week by the business journal Stark's Truck & Off-Highway Ledgeras its 18th annual "Manager of the Year."

The publication cited continuing efforts to diversify the company's product portfolio through aggressive investment in new innovative technologies, especially at its key construction machinery-making division and diesel engine unit, as a primary reason for selecting Owens as its 2005 Manager of the Year.
