Durable goods orders declined in September

New orders for manufactured durable goods in September decreased $4.4 billion or 2.1 percent to $207.0 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau announced today. This followed a 3.8 percent August increase.

Nondefense new orders for capital goods in September decreased $6.0 billion or 8.1 percent to $67.8 billion. Defense new orders decreased 0.4 percent to $6.9 billion.

Shipments of manufactured durable goods in September, up four of the last five months, increased $0.2 billion or 0.1 percent to $209.9 billion.This was at the highest level since the series was first stated on a NAICS basis in 1992 and followed a 2.3 percent August increase.
