The Entrepreneurs for Energy Efficiency (E3) of Houston, Texas, presented the National Energy Savers Award to Ford Motor Co. for its work in commercializing the Force Modulator™ System. The award was presented April 27 in Washington, D.C., at the Dirksen Senate Office Building. Senator Conrad Burns of Montana, an advocate of energy-efficient technologies, presented the award. Accepting for Ford Motor Co. was Evangelos Liasi, Ph.D. Liasi is a recognized expert in deep draw-press technology.

The system is an energy-efficient technology developed to improve the operation of metal stamping presses, particularly those used to form lighter-weight metals, such as high-strength steel and aluminum. The technology provides a soft hit, user-controlled tonnage at all points in the stroke, hold on bottom, and a controlled binder ring return.

Developed by Smedberg Machine Corp., the system is marketed by Metalforming Controls Corp.
