Ford restructuring plan may cut up to 30,000 jobs

The Detroit Newshas reported that the restructuring plan Ford Motor Co. will announce next month will cut up to 30,000 hourly jobs in North America within five years and close at least 10 assembly and component plants.

The newspaper reported that Ford also will announce the departure of up to seven top executives in the coming weeks.

According to Gerald Bantom, the United Auto Workers vice president responsible for the union's relations with Ford, the restructuring plan is expected to be released Jan. 23.
