GM to cut prices on 30 of its 2006 models

General Motors today announced that it is lowering prices on 30 of its 2006 models. It also is redesigning vehicles and improving warranties or adding standard equipment to some vehicles.

Called the "Total Value Promise," the strategy will cut the list price of the specified models by between 3 and 16 percent. For example, the base price of the 2006 Pontiac G6 V6 sedan is priced $645 below the 2005 MSRP. For 2006 the base Chevrolet Malibu is $1,835 below the 2005 version. Additionally, each GM division is offering vehicles priced specifically as value leaders with details available on GM's Web site.

The Total Value Promise also includes a number of vehicles with new standard features, such as a quiet tuning package, a year of OnStar service, rear park assist, and theft deterrent system on the Buick Rendezvous, and enhanced warranties, including a 4 year/50,000 mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty on all 2006 HUMMER and Buick models.

The company said that although incentives will continue to play a role in its marketing strategy, the focus will be on the vehicle and the value it offers to consumers.
