Indalex, Ohio Valley Aluminum exchange manufacturing assets in Midwest

Indalex Aluminum Solutions Group and Ohio Valley Aluminum Co. (OVACO) have exchanged manufacturing assets in the Midwest.

Indalex has assumed ownership of the OVACO aluminum extrusion plant in Connersville, Ind., and OVACO has assumed ownership of the Indalex cast house in Niles, Ohio. As part of the asset exchange agreement, OVACO will supply Indalex with aluminum billet under a five-year contract.

The transaction provides Indalex with more extrusion capacity, assured billet supply, and additional large-press capability. The Connersville facility has one 3,600-ton extrusion press and one 1,550-ton extrusion press. The Connersville facility gives Indalex 18 extrusion plants coast-to-coast in North America. The company also operates cast houses in the U.S. and Canada.

For OVACO the transaction adds to the company's billet casting capacity. OVACO also will continue to focus on its small- and medium-press aluminum custom extrusion business at its plant in Jeffersonville, Ind.

The Connersville plant has 80 employees represented by the United Automotive, Aerospace, and Agricultural Workers of America, Local 151. The Niles cast house has 80 employees represented by the United Steelworkers, Local 4564.

The Connersville extrusion plant acquisition is part of Indalex's Manufacturing Improvement Plan, 2004, which also includes expansions at Montreal, Quebec, and Gainesville, Ga. Additional capacity at Montreal has been achieved. The Gainesville plant expansion will be completed later in the year.
