No job gains in manufacturing for third consecutive month

The 112,000 new U.S. jobs created in November included no manufacturing jobs. Manufacturing lost 5,000 jobs in November, the third month in a row of job decline for the sector.

In releasing the November jobs data, the U.S. Department of Labor lowered its estimates for job growth in both September and October. October's gain was lowered to 303,000 from the originally reported 337,000-job gain. September's total was reduced to 119,000 from the originally reported 139,000.

The November gain is the weakest since July and lower than Wall Street economists' predictions of 180,000 new jobs.
