Steel consumers applaud trade case legislation

The Consuming Industries Trade Action Coalition Steel Task Force (CITAC Steel Task Force) today strongly supported H.R. 4217, the American Manufacturing Competitiveness Act, introduced by Rep. Joe Knollenberg (R-MI) to give legal standing in trade remedy cases to industrial users of products subject to those trade remedies.

"U.S. manufacturers are under tremendous competitive pressures in the global economy, and their success or failure is largely dependent on their ability to obtain adequate, timely supplies of globally priced raw materials," said Laurin M. Baker, executive director of the CITAC Steel Task Force. "Too often, the trade laws that are intended to protect one segment of the economy can wreak havoc in downstream industries, and under current law, those downstream industries are not allowed to fully participate in the process. H.R. 4217 would remedy that fundamental unfairness."
