Diehl Steel adds plate mill

Diehl Steel, Cincinnati, has installed a new plate mill that allows the company to custom-machine steel material up to 30 in. wide by 50 in. long by 12 in. high. The company now can machine larger sizes of tool steel, alloy steel, high-speed steel, carbon steel, powder-metal product, and stainless steel to customers' specifications and tolerances.

With a 20-in. cutting head, the plate mill eliminates the ridges that occur when cutting with smaller-diameter cutters. It can produce the company's Accu-Square™ steel products, which are machined to toolmaker tolerances. The result is a flat, squared, and parallel final block.
