Dixie-Southern fabricates large-diameter stainless pipe for Tampa Bay Water

Dixie-Southern, Duette, Fla., has completed fabrication of 650 ft. of 84-in.-dia. stainless steel pipe for regional utility Tampa Bay Water's Lithia hydrogen sulfide removal facility.

The company helped engineer and design the large-diameter stainless steel pipe in diameters from 42 to 84 in., making recommendations on the saddle and anchor bolt placement and designs, as well as additional pipe fabrication design thicknesses to help ensure high quality and mechanical integrity.

Dixie-Southern used an automated, high-deposition submerged arc process to weld all circumferential and longitudinal seams on the pipe. The pipe was 100 percent X-ray tested with no failures and was passivated with citric acid solution. It was delivered in 80-ft. sections, with four 90-degree elbows to connect the four long runs of pipe. Testing and start-up are scheduled for June 2013.
