ESAB celebrates 110 years in business

ESAB Welding & Cutting Products, a manufacturer of arc and gas welding equipment, manual and automated plasma cutting products, CNC cutting systems, welding automation and robotics, welding consumables, accessories, and PPE in Florence, S.C., marks its 110th anniversary in September 2014.

In 1904 Oscar Kjellberg, a welding pioneer, submitted a hand-written patent for the covered electrode. This invention marked the beginning of Kjellberg’s company, Electriska Svesnings-Aktiebolaget (ESAB). Today the company’s reach extends to almost every nation in the world, with manufacturing facilities on four continents employing more than 8,700 people.

ESAB was the first to develop the GTAW and GMAW processes, as well as the first friction-stir welding machine. Today’s developments include new standards of high-speed SAW and the next-generation ICE™ process.
