Feralloy President Roger B. Sippey retires after 42 years with the company

Feralloy Corp., a subsidiary of Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co., has announced that effective March 31, 2010, Roger B. Sippey retired from the company. Sippey served as president and CEO since August of 2007. Carlos M. Rodriguez-Borjas assumed the role of company president and chief operating officer effective April 1, 2010. Rodriguez-Borjas previously served for 11 years as general manager of Acero Prime, Feralloy's joint venture in Mexico.

According to Reliance President & COO Gregg J. Mollins, "Roger has done an outstanding job guiding Feralloy through the most severe economic period any of us have ever seen. Our time with Roger seemed to fly by after our 2008 acquisition of the PNA Group, and we only wish him well as he enjoys his well earned retirement." Regarding Sippey’s replacement, Mollins stated that, "In the short period we have known Carlos we have come to admire the great work he has done with Acero Prime and look forward to his continued successes at Feralloy."

Sippey joined Feralloy in 1968 and served in various executive roles during his 42-year tenure with the company, including general manager of Feralloy's St. Louis and Eastern Divisions, and president and CEO of Feralloy North American Steel (FNAS), a joint venture with Feralloy Corp. and Rautaruukki in Detroit, Mich. In 2004 he was promoted to executive vice president.

Sippey’s contributions to Feralloy's success were many according to Senior Manager of National Accounts & Marketing Paul J. Cusumano. "Roger knew the business and the industry in-depth." During his career Feralloy grew from a $5 million to a $500 million company. "Roger was fully engaged and committed each and every day. He is a visionary and a student of the industry. These qualities were instrumental in the establishment of Acero Prime in Mexico."

John Hirt, vice president and general manager of Feralloy's Midwest Division, has known and worked for Sippey for 34 years. According to Hirt, Sippey exhibited, "…a passion for the business, which came from deep within him. Roger expected much from others as well as himself, but he gave back tremendously. He wanted to see everyone learn, grow and succeed."

Sippey graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics from Muskingum University and completed the Executive Management Program at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business. During his retirement, he will continue to provide industry insights and guidance to both Feralloy and Reliance on a consultancy basis.
