The American Galvanizers Association (AGA), Centennial, Colo., has announced the winners of the 2012 Excellence in Hot-Dip Galvanizing Awards (EA) competition. More than 120 applications presenting projects completed in 2011 were submitted to be judged independently online by a panel of architects and engineers.
The projects are featured in the AGA Project Gallery at galvanizeit.org/project-gallery.
Fifteen submissions were chosen to represent the best of 13 categories, as well as a Most Distinguished and Lifetime Achievement designations.
The Most Distinguished Award went to the Cliffwalk at the Capilano Suspension Bridge, which gives visitors a bird's-eye view of the open canyon below. Hot-dip galvanized steel helps keep the structure safe and rust-free.
The Metrolina Greenhouses won the Lifetime Achievement Award for withstanding the test of time. Art VanWingerden of Metrolina said, "Not only does galvanizing provide an exceptionally long life in the hot, moist greenhouse setting, but it also corresponds with our efforts to protect the environment by eliminating the VOCs released when paint is used for corrosion protection."
AGA provides information to North American specifiers, architects, engineers, contractors, and fabricators on innovative applications and technological developments in hot-dip galvanizing for corrosion protection.
