Michigan Seamless Tube adds UV coating line

July 14, 2009

Michigan Seamless Tube, a producer of carbon and alloy seamless cold-drawn pipe and tube, has added a new UV coating line to its South Lyon, Mich., facility, offering 100 percent solid UV coatings for increased corrosion resistance and enhanced product appearance.

The system, installed by Universal Finishing Systems of the U.K., applies a black-pigmented, high-gloss UV coating. It combines an Ultra-Vac vacuum coating machine with an eight-lamp Supa-Cure UV curing system. Coating thickness is controlled by consistent vacuum pressure and incoming air speed, so the system gives an immediate cured finish all around the tube and 100 percent transfer efficiency.

According to Universal Finishing Systems, Michigan Seamless Tube now can provide customers in distribution, transportation, energy, heavy equipment, and original equipment manufacturing with an added six months or more of corrosion resistance.
