Welding innovations earn Fronius "Technology of the Year Award"

Fronius has received the 2006 Frost & Sullivan Technology of the Year Award, which is bestowed upon a company that has introduced an innovative technology into the market that is expected to bring significant contributions to the industry in terms of adoption, change, and competitive posture.

In 2005 Fronius launched several welding technologies, including its cold-metal-transfer (CMT) technology and DeltaSpot resistance spot welding system, which, according to the company, resolved several longstanding engineering problems in the welding industry.

"CMT technology has overcome the highly dissimilar parameters for welding aluminum and steel to effectively weld these two metals and open up new opportunities in other applications," explained Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Titus HoAevar. "Since its launch, many unforeseen applications have already emerged, further highlighting the technology's immense potential."

"The DeltaSpot system is expected to have a significant impact on the way parts are welded in the automotive industry, particularly in welding chassis, where increasing flexibility is needed and multiple sheets are being joined," commented HoAevar.

The company also has forged into hybrid and robotic welding. It has partnered with TRUMPF in the field of hybrid welding to deliver a system for automotive manufacturing, particularly power train applications.
