Greer adds gauges, AGC system

Greer Steel, Dover, Ohio, has recently upgraded its Bliss 30-in. breakdown reversing mill by adding two 12S gamma ray gauges and a 12S automatic gauge control (AGC) system.

The addition of the new equipment is expected to provide greater gauge and shape consistency and accuracy. The company says there will be less part-to-part variance, extending tool and die life and providing higher processing speeds. Because the target gauge can move toward the bottom of the tolerance range, more parts per coil are possible.

The AGC system, which uses a feed-forward design, interprets exit gauge and allows for increased correction control. The system captures more data points, allowing for greater resolution of the actual gauge performance.

Greer Steel produces cold rolled strip steel.
