Greer Steel continues facility upgrades

Greer Steel, Dover, Ohio, recently completed one in a new series of upgrades, installing a 40-ton, top-running Zenar crane to service the company's pickling and primary slitting departments. The crane, which has a 110-ft. span, allows the company to receive larger coils, helping expand production capabilities from the beginning of the production line.

Greer also plans to install a hot-rolled slitter—the 1/4-in. by 60-in. slitting line will be operational in the first quarter of 2008. Capable of running at speeds up to 900 FPM, the SMS Demag line will have the ability to process material with yield and shear strengths up to 120,000 PSI.

The company produces cold-rolled strip steel supplied as coils or cut-to-length.
