Greer Steel names executive VP

Dover, Ohio-based Greer Steel has named James Harpster as executive vice president.

Greer CEO and President, John Raese, made the announcement, stating, "Jim will be the cornerstone of our management team. He is a proven leader with an excellent operational background and a strong customer commitment. His talents and experiences in the specialty strip industry are very well matched to the strategies we are pursuing. We look forward to his contributions as we continue to seek opportunities to serve our customers and grow our business in the years ahead."

Harpster began his career in 1969 as a metallurgist in the stainless steel operations of the former Jones & Laughlin Steel organization. He joined Cold Metal Products in 1980, becoming president and chief executive officer in 1984. He then served as senior vice president of Nedwick Steel Co., a producer of heat-treated high-carbon and alloy strip. Most recently, Harpster was the eastern regional manager for Los Angeles-based Precision Specialty Metals, a converter of stainless sheet and strip.
