American Hydroformers increases capability for specialized welding technique

October 23, 2013

American Hydroformers, Fort Wayne, Ind., a fabricator with capabilities in hydroforming, hydraulic press work, metal stamping, and tube forming, has added a TRUMPF® TLF 6000 Turbo welding laser to deliver specialized welding techniques. According to the company, the machine combines precision and speed with the potential for increased complexity in the production of automatic transmission parts that work similar to a rotating hydraulic manifold.

The welding laser is used to create a transfer tube cell that allows the company to form two different diameter tubes of the same length. The two tubes are pressed together to form a tight fit. Three lobe formations are pressed into the outer tube, creating a chamber between the inner and outer tubes.
