Coherent opens CO₂ laser applications lab in China

Coherent Inc., Santa Clara, Calif., has opened a new CO₂ laser applications laboratory in Beijing. The facility gives customers in the Chinese materials processing and microelectronics markets quick feedback on the suitability of CO₂ laser processing for their applications.

The Coherent Beijing applications laboratory currently processes laser/material interactions with up to 400 W of laser power.

"Beyond traditional materials processing applications, we're now seeing increased demand for sealed CO₂ lasers for a variety of new applications and materials," noted Sri Venkat, vice president and general manager of Coherent's CO₂ Business Unit. "Having the ability to perform testing locally will speed development and adoption of these new processes in China."
