JDSU, Amada to develop second-generation fiber lasers

JDSU, Milipitas, Calif., and Amada have announced plans to develop jointly a line of second-generation fiber lasers with up to 4-kW output power. The lasers will be used in Amada’s high-powered laser material processing system.

The collaboration builds on the companies' partnership for the first-generation laser, which is being launched currently. The laser can cut through highly reflective metals such as titanium, brass, and copper and offers the flexibility required to cut different, precise shapes with changes to the system's settings.
