Rofin announces management changes

Rofin-Sinar Technologies Inc., Plymouth, Mich., a manufacturer of laser beam sources and laser-based systems, has announced that Thomas Merk, currently COO of the Rofin Laser Micro and Marking Group, will succeed Günther Braun as president/CEO on July 1. At that time, Braun will resign as a company director, and Merk will assume the vacant board position.

Merk has been COO of the Laser Micro Group since 2005, of the Laser Marking Business since 2006, and a managing director of Rofin-Baasel Lasertech GmbH & Co. KG, Germany, since 2000. He started his career in 1989 at Boehringer Werkzeugmaschinen Vertriebs GmbH, Germany, and remained there until 2000, most recently serving as sales director. He holds a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Technical University of Stuttgart, Germany.

Braun has been CEO and president of the company since 2005 and a member of the board of directors since 1996. He joined the company in 1989.
