The TRUMPF Laser Technology Center, Plymouth, Mich., has presented Frank DiPietro with the first Laser Champion Award for his lifetime achievements in advancing the use of laser technology in industrial manufacturing.

DiPietro founded the Automotive Laser Application Workshop (ALAW) in 1992 and continues as its chairman. He has also been actively involved in automated systems, tooling, robotics, and laser systems for GM's automotive operations for more than 45 years.

According to Walter Haimerl, managing director of the technology center, the award honors individuals who champion the use of laser technology in their companies. The award was presented during an open house held in conjunction with ALAW.
