Indian Hills Community College earns NIMS accreditation

Indian Hills Community College, Ottumwa, Iowa, has announced that its Machine Technology Program has earned NIMS accreditation — the highest benchmark that a metalworking training provider can achieve, according to the college.

The IHCC staff and faculty have met NIMS national skill standards for Level I machining, with emphasis on CNC milling: programming, setup, and operations; CNC turning operations; CNC turning: programming, setup, and operations; job planning, benchwork, and layout; and measurement, materials, and safety.

To gain accreditation, the college had to perform a self-evaluation, as well as undergo a two-day on-site evaluation that included an inspection of the college’s metalworking shop, as well as a host of in-depth interviews with students, instructors, administrators, program advisory committee members, and industry employers in the Ottumwa area.

The evaluation team gave the program the highest ratings possible in all areas of the on-site evaluation: program purpose, facilities; equipment, tooling, and measuring devices; program features; administration; instructional staff; and advisory committee.
