Main Steel to establish new Chicago-area facility

Main Steel, a Shale-Inland Company, has unveiled plans for a new flagship operation in the Chicago area. The 240,000-sq.-ft. facility in Elk Grove, Ill., will combine the company’s two Chicago operations in Bartlett and Wheeling, Ill., under one roof. The move is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.

The company will add an 84-in., heavy-gauge cut-to-length line and a plate polisher to the new facility. The plant will house coil polishing, sheet polishing, dairy and plate polishing, three cut-to-length lines, buffing, and slitting.

David Brewer, named director of operations, Chicago, will be in charge of the new plant. He previously served as vice president, operations, at Esmark Steel Group.
