American Crane & Equipment installs crane system at Boeing facility

American Crane & Equipment Corp., a manufacturer of overhead electric cranes and hoists in Douglassville, Pa., has completed installation of a custom underhung crane system built for the new Boeing manufacturing facility in Charleston, S.C.

The 80-ton-capacity crane features 14 bridges that can be interlocked, allowing the three carriers to be transferred from one bridge to another throughout the system. The carriers can rotate ±180 degrees. The 460- by 1,000-ft. building is designed without columns, which allows 100 percent accessibility from the crane system.

The controls system has infinite position possibilities, allowing the lifting of objects of various shapes with difficult centers of gravity.
