Demag V-type crane wins iF Design Award

The Demag V-type crane has won the iF Design Award from iF International Forum Design GmbH for the V-type construction of the crane girder, which is based on bionic principles. The design, which includes vertical struts and tapered diaphragm joints, uses material only where it is necessary, reducing its deadweight by an average of 17 percent.

This construction reduces crane oscillation by 30 percent and enables loads to be positioned quickly and precisely, the company reports. Depending on requirements, the new girder design can be adapted with millimeter accuracy to the height of existing or planned buildings.

Terex Material Handling GmbH, Düsseldorf, Germany, has patents pending for the new technologies incorporated in the crane.
