Greer upgrades 20-in. temper mill

August 8, 2006

Greer Steel has upgraded its 20-in. temper mill by adding equipment and quality control systems that serve to further narrow-gauge variation and provide an enhanced finish.

Primary improvements include the replacement of mechanical screws with 12-in.-dia. hydraulic cylinders to boost separating force to 900,000 lbs. for enhanced surface quality and 12S automatic gauge control (AGC) to boost CPK values and provide higher measurement resolution.

Greer Steel produces cold-rolled strip steel to customer specifications, including various carbon grades, demanding surface finishes, tight gauge control, and edging.
